The room

There are not many rooms like this left.

Terracotta walls, a crystal chandelier, arched openings and heavy curtains. White linen on the tables, blue-patterned china on the linen. The table is set to the measure of the room, and the room is in no hurry.

On Alsancak, inside the ground floor of an old townhouse.

How the table runs

An evening in four acts

Plates land in the middle and the order holds. The bigger the table, the longer the evening.

  1. 01

    Mezes

On blue-patterned china, spread across the middle of the table.

  2. 02

    Hot plates

Straight from the kitchen, still steaming — this is where the rakı starts.

  3. 03

    The main

Slow-cooked meat, shared straight from the pot it came in.

  4. 04

    Dessert

Before the table breaks up, with coffee alongside.

The spread

The middle of the table never empties

The kitchen

The plate is finished by hand

The last touch happens in the kitchen, before the plate leaves for the room. At this size, one pair of hands can finish every plate — and here they do.
